Bikeshare Scooter Systems

National Transportation Atlas Database
The Bikeshare Scooter Systems dataset was compiled on July 11, 2023 and was updated throughout February 2024 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). It is a list of cities served by a bikeshare and/or e-scooter system collected each year from 2015 to 2023. Some systems serve more than one city. The layer lists just the primary city served. Bikeshare includes systems that are open to the general public, IT-automated, and station based (contain hubs to which users can grab and return a bike) as well as dockless systems. The layer includes a count of the number of docking stations, the number of dockless bikeshare systems, and the number of e-scooter systems serving a city (if applicable) in each year. Counts are for systems operating at any point during the specified year unless otherwise specified by the field.
Bikeshare and e-scooters are types of micromobility, a category of modes of transportation that includes very light, low-occupancy vehicles such as electric scooters (e-scooters), electric skateboards, shared bicycles, and electric pedal assisted bicycles (e-bikes). Explore trends in micromobility in the U.S. since 2015 with the Bikeshare Scooter Systems dataset.

Data set is considered complete for the information presented, as described in the abstract. Users are advised to read the rest of the metadata record carefully for additional details.
Data are retrieved from the individual websites and apps for bikeshare (docked and dockless) and e-scooter systems. For docked bikeshare stations, latitude and longitude are from GBFS data, station file published by the system, or where neither GFBS nor a station file available, drawn from Google Maps based on the physical location marked on a map on the system website or on the app for the system.
